Biography[]

History[]

At the beginning of the series, Nikita is shown living on the streets. She converses with friends on busy nighttime street corners and runs to evade the police for loitering. She is shown busking for spare change with a harmonica and her hat on the ground. After waking up in Section One after her sentencing, she forlornly questions whether her "mama" went to her funeral.

Nikita's relationship with her mother was described as neglectful and indifferent on her mother's part. It was suggested that they were lower income and prone to relocating often. When asked by Michael why she ran away, Nikita corrected him by saying that her mother "preferred her new boyfriend" and told Nikita to "get out." Nikita's mother was an alcoholic who neglected Nikita when drunk.

Nikita didn't regret that decision, even if it led to her being on the street. Her former acquaintance, Jamey a drug dealer, describes Nikita on the street as someone who was good at making deals, "A pack of cigarettes, a place to crash."

Flashback sequences show a young Nikita being bullied by other children and Nikita hiding in closets to avoid her mother's drunk boyfriends. The picture Nikita paints of her mother early in the series is not a loving one. She once suggests that her real mother would have allowed for Nikita to be beaten rather than suffer herself. However, one flashback sequence does show Nikita and her mother enjoying a makeshift dinner of cold hotdogs as classical music from nearby a restaurant fills the air. Roberta lifts a young Nikita into her arms and together they sway to the "Blue Danube."

Michael later recounts that she once told him that, Nikita's warmest childhood memory is when she and her mother missed a bus and spent the entire night together by a fire in Saint Etienne. Wrapped in her mother's arms, Nikita felt safe.

Recruitment to Section One[]

La-femme-nikita-ep1still

Nikita is framed for murder.

In the first episode of the series, Nikita is falsely accused of killing a police officer, sentenced to life in prison, and finds herself recruited to Section One, where she is told her death was faked, and would become true if she would not agree to become Section's agent.

In the season 3 episode Outside the Box, she first finds out that Section has not only blackmailed her into service after being wrongfully accused, but in fact framed her with the murder to begin with. She finds the agents responsible for her framing, but they are eliminated and all of their records are deleted from the system once she tries to uncover the reason for her recruitment.

Two seasons later, in the 5th season, Nikita discovers the real reason she was taken into Section — her father was Mr. Jones the head of Center, the organization controlling Section. (Which had seemed to be autonomous in the beginning of the series.) His plan was to make Nikita take over as head of Section One and eventually Center. At the series finale, he sacrifices himself in order to achieve these goals.

Training[]

As the only truly innocent recruit into Section, her compassion and sympathy constantly conflicts with the often ruthless orders she is given. After spending two years being trained by Michael, Nikita learns to use her beauty as a weapon and becomes an expert in martial arts and ordnance. Initially reluctant to kill (she uses creative measures to avoid having to commit a murder during her first mission), she eventually becomes more efficient at doing so. She is used in a wide variety of capacities, from "Valentine operative" to assassin, despite her moral qualms, but manages to hold on to her humanity while working for the organization.

Plot[]

Season One[]

During her first year within Section One Nikita starts to test the boundaries of what Section will allow from their operatives, whether it's the freedom and flexibility to have outside friendships, romantic relationships, and encounters with outside law enforcement agencies. She also learns to prod for answers on the bureaucracy of Section One, including the freedoms of operatives within Section and what is to become of her once Section no longer has a need for her. Her relationship with her former trainer Michael also increases in importance. Nikita has an attraction to him that she both fights and entertains. He can be tender but also manipulative. He is protective of her but also possessive. As her first year as an operative comes to a close, Nikita's disillusionment with Section grows. By her own admission, she gets little sleep and her appetite is lacking. Madeline's revelation that she will never be free of the Section puts Nikita on a path to contemplating suicide. It is the coincidental interruption by Michael that stays her hand. Michael's drive to keep her alive is in direct contrast to Nikita's desire to end her life. It is Nikita's inability to sacrifice an innocent to help achieve Section objectives and its consequences that leads to her being placed in abeyance. Michael is shocked at the revelation and attempts one final time to spare Nikita from cancellation during a mission against the Freedom League. At the start of the mission, Michael offers Nikita an unsanctioned communicator and tells her that through it, they can communicate from anywhere. It is through the communicator that Michael reveals to Nikita that she is on a suicide mission and that she needs to run. After the destruction of the Freedom League's compound, Nikita is believed to be dead by all. At season's end, Nikita is seen on a nighttime train finally free of Section One and refusing to answer Michael's message to confirm her escape.

Season Two[]

Nikita is free from Section One for over six months. During that time she is working as a waitress in a diner and living in a small run down apartment. Everyone in Section One believes that she died during her abeyance mission. She has repeatedly ignored Michael's messages to confirm that she is alive on the communicator he gave her. However, the Freedom League's discovery of her leads to Nikita's capture. A video of her incarceration is made and unbeknownst to her, sent to Section One. Nikita manages to escape after a brief detainment, but she overhears plans to assault an incoming Section mission. It is while observing that failed mission that Nikita reveals herself to Michael and helps to save his life. She manages to leave without further contact, but when Michael once again reaches out to her, this time, Nikita answers him. She has relocated to an abandoned shipping barge. When Michael arrives, a violent confrontation between them leads to Nikita and Michael consummating their relationship. Nikita confesses to Michael that the freedom she'd been living was not what she'd hoped for. Michael offers to bring her back into Section, even if he doesn't know how. Nikita declines and reveals that she will keep moving. When the Freedom League's tape of Nikita arrives at Section, her survival is now known to both Operations and Madeline. An assault of the Freedom League's compound is planned with the extraction of Nikita a secondary mission. Michael and Nikita fake her longterm incarceration and Michael "rescues" Nikita from the Freedom League. Upon her return to Section One, Nikita spends a significant amount of time being retrained by Jurgen, a Spec Ops operative, rather than Michael. Jurgen is suspicious of the cover story Michael and Nikita have given about her longterm captivity with the Freedom League. During this time Nikita attempts to engage with Michael romantically, but he repeatedly rebuffs her. After her return to full status, Nikita and Jurgen being a flirtatious friendship, must to Michael's disapproval. Unbeknownst to Nikita, Michael is ordered by Madeline and Operations to push Nikita towards Jurgen so that they can access files that Jurgen has stored and is using as black mail against Section One. Nikita is angered at Michael's manipulation, especially in light of the night they spent together. When Jurgen's black mail material is destroyed a broken Jurgen chooses to die to achieve mission closure. The loss of Jurgen affects Nikita greatly.

A shortage of qualified higher level operatives leads to Nikita's promotion to Level Two and to her leading her own mission three years ahead of schedule. She insists on a kinder approach when dealing with her team. Michael counsels against it, but Nikita is determined to chart her own path. When Operations asks Michael his opinion on Nikita's progress, Michael honestly points out, "She doesn't take advice. It's risky promoting her early." She ultimately succeeds despite unfavorable conditions but she does incorporate a sterner approach when necessary. Nikita's feelings for Michael are also revisited when they are both required to go undercover as husband and wife. Nikita finds herself between the competing interests of Operations and Madeline and Michael's counsel unavailable to her. By season's end Nikita is recruited by Adrian, the founder of Section One, to help dismantle it. Nikita is caught between a worthy cause and the possibility that everyone in Section could be cancelled if they're successful. This coincides with Nikita becoming increasingly curious about Michael's life outside of Section. However, even the high level clearance she's acquired from Adrian leads to dead ends when she searches for information on Michael. Adrian's attempted coup against Section One, fails when Michael apprehends both Adrian and Nikita. When brought before Operations and Madeline, Operations reveals that they were aware of Adrian's plan and recruited Nikita to assist them as bait set up for recruitment by Adrian. However, in the aftermath, Nikita demands that Operations publicly answer to Adrian's allegations concerning his abuse of Section's power. Nikita ultimately chooses to side with Section One, but it is clear that her defiance will have her marked for cancellation. Nikita is ready to accept her fate and tells Michael that she is not afraid. Fearing that he has lost her for good, Michael kisses Nikita in the main floor of Section One before departing. Due to her role in the questioning Operations' management of Section One, Operations does order her immediate cancellation. It is only Madeline's counsel that makes him reconsider his demand. She suggests increasing Nikita's mission frequency would be a more plausible way or eliminating her without arousing the suspicion of other operatives.

Season Three[]

In the aftermath of Adrian's attempted coup of Section One. Nikita's mission frequency has been increased and Michael is nowhere to be found. Through her own skill, Nikita has managed to avoid perishing on the poorly planned missions she's been sent on, but she knows her luck will eventually run out. Her discovery of Michael's long term blood cover and the family that has resulted from it puts Michael and Nikita at odds. She feels betrayed by his lack of honesty but sympathetic to the innocent wife and child that have been dragged into Section's pursuit of terrorists. When Michael's closure of his blood cover mission leaves him suicidal and despondent, Nikita supports him while he adjusts to life without his young son, Adam.

Nikita is now a "veteran" in Section One but their methods continue to be just as troubling as they were before. Thankfully, her own skills as an operative have grown not just in the field but in her ability to navigate more complicated and layered scenarios within Section's politics itself. In the field, Nikita is sent on several missions with more overt "Valentine" components, including one where she must pretend to be the fiancé of a terrorist whose memory has been altered by Section. Section "assists" Nikita on her mission by subliminally brainwashing her to respond to her target Karl Peruze romantically. Distraught, Nikita realizes that under the chemical manipulation she slept with her target, the first time she's done so on a mission. Her anger at the emotional violation culminates with her slapping Michael, who was used to facilitate the brainwashing.

Nikita's past also gets further explored. Her long held questions about the reason behind her recruitment and her now sober mother's quest to discover what really happened to her incarcerated daughter are given time.

03x13 Beyond the Pale1190

Nikita and Michael "escape" Section and go to Michael's cabin.

03x22 On Borrowed Time117

Nikita and Michael secretly steal some time together inside Section One.

The romantic relationship between Michael and Nikita reaches its highest point during season three. Michael shows more open regard towards Nikita as the season progress, going as far as asking her to spend some down time with him and including her in a mission where he must fake an escape from Section. The mission allows them to have some surveillance free time together where they tentatively address what a relationship between them would look like. Michael admits that he needed time after the closure of his blood cover before he could commit to Nikita. Nikita is wary but eventually they embark on what will be a relationship that receives significant pushback from Madeline and Operations. Michael's competency at leading Section when needed and Nikita's strengths as an operative lead Operations and Madeline to suspect that their relationship is also being used as an opportunity to meet and devise a coup attempt again them. A Type One Directive, an internal dictum about their relationship is issued, claiming that their relationship will lead to a drop in mission effectiveness for them, but especially Michael. Because of the Directive, they are required to end their relationship or face consequences. When they refuse, Michael is demoted and stripped of his responsibilities within Section. Nikita ends the relationship to spare Michael the abuse, but he vows to her that they will be together. The Type One Directive has Michael and Nikita meeting clandestinely during missions and evading all attempts by Section to capture them. During a mission, Nikita is immobilized by Section operatives under Madeline's orders and is subjected to a behavior modification program that suppresses her ability to form attachments. As a result, she withdraws completely from Michael even if she's unsure why she's done so. When questioned by Michael on her behavior, Nikita tells a clearly devastated Michael that she "doesn't love him anymore." Michael vows to reverse whatever has been done to Nikita.

Season Four[]

Four months have passed and the brainwashing process implemented on Nikita has taken a firm hold of her personality, much to the satisfaction of Operations and Madeline. Nikita is becoming the perfect operative—cold, ruthless, and efficient. Disturbed by what Nikita is transforming into, Michael attempts to find the secret that will undo the process and restore Nikita to her true self. With the help of Adrian, who had undergone the process and survived, Michael helps to detox Nikita and eliminate the influence of the Gelman Process from her.

The knowledge of Adrian’s whereabouts brings Michael and Nikita into an impasse with Madeline and Operations and they agree to cease all attempts to alter Nikita. That agreement does not deter Operations and Madeline from using Section missions to separate Michael and Nikita. When Red Cell arms dealer Helmut Volker proposes marriage to an undercover Nikita, Operations orders her to accept. Volker is revealed to be an undercover Interpol agent who refuses to allow a bombing to proceed and with Nikita’s help, he goes on the run and Nikita returns to Section.

Nikita confesses to Michael that she feels confused and lost after her Section mandated marriage to Helmut Volker. She subsequently asks for time from their relationship and Michael agrees, postponing the time together promised by Operations if they completed a favor for him.

While Michael is away on a mission, Operations and Madeline inform Nikita that she has been selected by Oversight for a pilot programs that will free Section One operatives and allow them to integrate back into the real world. It is not a decision that they have made, but one that they are being asked to execute. The only condition for Nikita's freedom is that she sever contact with everyone from her Section life. Michael arrives back just as Nikita is about to leave her apartment. After one final night together, Nikita is back in the real world and working at a bookshop. She is visited by an Oversight representative that evaluates to acclimation to the real world. A skeptical Nikita tries to accept that the pilot program is genuine. George approaches her one night explaining that she'll be allowed to keep her freedom if she makes her way back to Section and kills Operations. If she fails, she will be recalled back into Section. She reaches out to Michael but she is apprehended by Section operatives before they can meet. Once back at Section, George has arranged for gun that will allow Nikita to complete the mission he has assigned her. Nikita is told that George has someone on the inside giving her access and she wonders if that person is Michael. Unaware of her motivation, Michael counsels Nikita to stop and be more cautious. Nikita confronts Operations only to be surprised by Madeline who suggests that Operations is Nikita's father. Not convinced, she nevertheless stands down.

Operations and Madeline eventually temper their attempts to separate Michael and Nikita but the relationship remains distant. Mick Schtoppel, Nikita's neighbor and occasional Section One informant is revealed to be the mysterious Mr. Jones, the head of Center, the organization above Section One and Oversight.

On a mission to assassinate Grenet, the new Cardinal of Red Cell, Nikita is tasked to deliver the kill shot while Michael provides on the ground support. The mission seemingly goes bad when Michael discovers Nikita wounded with a gunshot wound and Grenet having escaped. Michael develops suspicions when he discovers that Nikita's wound was self-inflicted. When he questions her, Nikita poisons Michael and delivers him to Grenet. In exchange for information on Section One, Grenet will help Nikita "sink" her files from Section's databases and help her escape Section forever. Michael's corneal access, which Grenet helps Nikita acquire now that he is incapacitated, give Nikita access to the files she needs.

Nikita sinks her files, escapes Section One and disappears. Michael, who has returned to Section after escaping the captivity and torture inflicted on him by Red Cell, is tasked with orders to find Nikita and cancel her. Part of Grenet's assistance to Nikita is giving her access to a plastic surgeon who has developed a revolutionary new procedure involving prosthetic that alter a person's face with no surgery. Nikita undergoes the procedure to help her evade capture. Section becomes aware of Nikita's methods but without a description of her face, they are having difficulty in catching up to her.

Nikita is closer than they think. She infiltrates Section, disguised as Kate Quinn, and monitors the mission to apprehend her. Once Michael discovers Nikita's true identity she asks him to come with her. Together they can escape Section One and be together.

After helping him sink his files as well, Michael joins Nikita and they spend an unspecified amount of time on a sailboat evading Section detection. Nikita siphons money off of dormant Red Cell accounts. On their way to a bank in Iceland, Michael detects the activity of Section to help reduce collateral damage in public. When Nikita returns, she notes the lack of procedural questions about her withdrawal. Section One has arrived and they have no way out. Nikita suggests they try to escape but Michael doesn't want to. They step outside their vehicle and are quickly apprehended as Section operative surround them.

Upon their arrival at Section One, Michael and Nikita are separated. They are divided by a single pane of glass. They can see and hear each other but can't touch. Michael outlines to Nikita what will likely happen: one of them will die, the other will be sedated to prevent suicide, after some time has passed they will awakened and continue on as an operative. Nikita tells him that if he dies, then she will walk in front of the first bullet shot at her. Michael refuses to accept that and asks Nikita to take care of Adam for him.

Nikita is strapped to a chair in the white room with Madeline observing a technician. She gives instructions on the level of electricity that will be used to kill her. Madeline informs Nikita that Michael will live. A distraught Walter is allowed in say his goodbyes. Just as Nikita is about to be killed, the equipment malfunctions and Madeline is alerted that Mr. Jones has arrived and wants to see her and Operations. In Committee, Operations and Madeline are surprised to discover that Mr. Jones is the man they know as Mick Schtoppel. Nikita, clearly freed from her bonds in the white room, arrives and is revealed to be mole working on behalf of Center.

Nikita and Mr. Jones bring in Section One personnel to perform evaluations of their performance. Nikita praises Michael's efficiency on the field and calls him an exemplary Section One operative. Michael objects and says that he betrayed Section One repeatedly for her. With that information out in the open, Nikita orders Michael's cancellation. He requests an Abeyance mission and Nikita agrees.

Season Five[]

Having participated in Center’s housecleaning of Section One by revealing her role as an undercover operative for Mr. Jones, Nikita is preparing for an easier, more relaxed life at Center. However, when Section One discovers that several anti-Western organizations have joined forces to create a new terrorist supergroup, called The Collective, Mr. Jones forces Nikita to return there. Nikita is not received warmly.

Now with more access, Nikita restarts her search for information on the reasons behind her recruitment to Section One.

After admitting to Michael that her final words to him when they parted were a lie, the two of them make love in Nikita's Section quarters. Over dinner, Michael asks Nikita to come with him when he departs. Along with Adam, the three of them can be a family and follow their dreams. Nikita worries about the appearance of trying to replace Elena in Adam's eyes. Michael tells her to just be herself. He even brings up the possibility of them having children of their own. Nikita fears that she's become too disillusioned to follow their dreams. Michael reassures her that they'll find a way to make it work.

With Michael looking on, Nikita accepts the dog tags Mr. Jones holds out. She watches in silence as Mr. Jones walks towards The Collective members and his own death as well as Adam running towards Michael's arms. She is visibly shaken when Mr. Jones is gunned down at the other end of the bridge.

At a train station, Nikita arrives in time to give her farewells to a departing Michael and Adam. Michael tells Nikita that there will come a time when Adam won't need him. Nikita tells him that he'll know where to find her. They embrace. Nikita professes her love for him. Michael whispers his love into her ear. They part, still holding hands. Michael takes Adam's had. With one final look, Michael releases Nikita's hand and he walks away with Adam. Tears stream down Nikita's face and she puts on her sunglasses to shield her eyes.

In the Perch at Section One, Nikita stands stoically as she looks out alone as the new Operations.

Personality[]

Nikita is known for her compassion, honesty, and her rebellious nature.

Relationships[]

Michael Samuelle[]

"You know, you're becoming very predictable Michael. You lie, then you say you're sorry. You lie, then you say you're sorry. Can't you come up with something a little more interesting?"

–Nikita to Michael, Charity

Until Nikita's recruitment, Michael had been distant to all in Section after the death of his wife Simone a year prior. The time he spent training Nikita over the course of two years brought out a more engaged Michael. He lobbies to Operations against cancelling her after Operations notes that Nikita still lacks discipline after two years of training. Michael is extremely protective of Nikita to the point that he starts bending Section protocols on her behalf. Still, that does not mean that he is not above manipulating Nikita's obvious romantic interest in him for either her safety or to achieve Section objectives.

Nikita facilitates between offering Michael friendship and hurling angry accusations at him for his abuses. Eventually, Nikita and Michael become romantically involved, a development that threatens not only their standing in Section One, but their very lives. Their relationship is seen as a threat by Operations and Madeline, and they use a mind altering method on Nikita called the Gellman Process to rid her of all emotions. Michael manages to alter the progress, but Nikita's temperament takes a more professional and somewhat distant tone even Section pulls back on interfering with their relationship.

Several characters throughout the series have pointed out to Nikita that Michael loves her.

Operations[]

"You still don't understand what you're dealing with do you? You think you're the lonely beacon of decency in an insane world. Or something like that, isn't that true?"

–Operations to Nikita, First Mission

Operations' initial take on Nikita is that she "lacks discipline" even after two years of training. He orders Michael to cancel her but Michael convinces Operations to use Nikita's graduation assignment to obtain information about terrorist Gideon Van Vactor's upcoming dealings. Nikita's tendency to think for herself and occasionally deviate from established mission profiles angers Operations. Section operatives are supposed to follow orders and Nikita constantly challenges that. However, he does acknowledge that Nikita is an excellent operative and her unorthodox approach sometimes gets results.

Because of Nikita's compassion, Operations has on occasion used Nikita for unauthorized missions where he has a vested interest in its outcome.

Madeline[]

"Petrosian was willing to give me a life. As much as one can have inside Section. But in order to get it I lied, I bullied. And who knows, eventually I might even have killed in cold blood. In other words, I found out what it's like to be you."

–Nikita to Madeline, New Regime

Upon Nikita's induction to Section One, Madeline is introduced by Michael as Nikita's "new mother". This was clearly an attempt to take advantage of Nikita's complicated history with her own mother. While disciplined, there is a sense of warmth between the women, even though Nikita realizes early on that Madeline is constantly observing her.

Walter[]

At the beginning of the series, Walter's comments to Nikita are filled with sexual innuendo. Nikita easily laughs off the older man's attentions and will gamely go along with his suggestions. To Walter, Nikita is affectionately known as "Sugar" and eventually their relationship shifts to a more familial tone. Although, the sexual ribbing still remains in some form. Walter often serves as a sounding board for Nikita when she's trying to manage a pressing issue within Section.

Seymour Birkoff[]

As one of the youngest members of Section One, Birkoff develops a close brotherly relationship with Nikita. However, that does not prevent Birkoff from having romantic interest in Nikita. He once confesses to Nikita that she's "the best lookin girl in Section" and wonders if she'd be interested. After her hesitancy, he correctly states that he's "little brother". Although it's not something she abuses, Nikita has at times cajoled Birkoff into helping her acquire information she should not have access to, like Michael's new address after the conclusion of his blood cover mission.

Adrian[]

As the exiled founder of Section One, Adrian recruits Nikita to assist in her infiltration of Section One because of her known distaste for it.

Carla[]

In season 1, Carla is Nikita's contractor next door neighbor. She is someone who wears her heart on her sleeve and her dating life is a source of much conversation between herself and Nikita.

Gray Wellman[]

01x09 Gray2601

Nikita goes on a date with Gray Wellman.

During a mission to recover the stolen Directory of Section One operatives, Nikita is assigned to get close to widower father and architect Gray Wellman. Wellman is believed to have had an accidental encounter with the organization that stole the Directory. A game of subterfuge commences in which Nikita tries to convince a third party pursuing the Directory that she and Wellman have the Directory and are willing to sell it. Wellman is unaware of the proceedings and has become increasingly enamored with Nikita. At mission's end, even though Section is unable to recover the Directory, the interested third party has been eliminated. Nikita and Gray Wellman begin a relationship even after warnings from Madeline that she will never be able to be fully honest with Gray. When her relationship begins to threaten Nikita's efficiency on missions, she is ordered to end it or face consequences. After an attempt on his life almost kills Gray, Nikita realizes that Section One will follow through on its threat to eliminate him from her life. Nikita sternly ends the relationship with a confused and distraught Gray.

Helmut Volker[]

04x06 Love Honor & Cherish1515

Nikita comforts Helmut after the "death" of his brother.

In season 4, Nikita is forced to marry Red Cell weapons supplier Helmut Volker in an attempt to infiltrate and exploit his connection to the terrorist organization. She does so as Anna Gunther, a drug dealer, she impersonated to gain access to his home. After a kidnapping attempt, Volker admits to being an undercover Interpol agent that is being used to draw out Red Cell. When Interpol orders Volker to allow a terrorist attack proceed with at the Hague with his company's weapons, he is disgusted with the suggestion. His strong reaction strongly impacts Nikita and further cements to her that Volker shares similar ideas of how she would strongly oppose similar orders from Section One. When Volker is determined to stop the attack and possibly make him a target, Nikita reveals herself as a counterterrorism operative and kills several Section operatives who were sent to stop Volker. She encourages him to shoot her in the arm to give the appearance that Volker used force to stop his apprehension. Nikita advocates to Michael to let Volker disappear unharmed.

Jurgen[]

After Nikita is "rescued" from the Freedom League, Jurgen is a Spec Ops division operative who is put in charge of her reprogramming. He is deeply suspicious of the story she and Michael have concocted about her time as a hostage. To help tie up loose ends from their deception involving Nikita's time away from Section One, Michael devises a plan in which he will kill the Freedom League operative who can confirm that Nikita was not a long time hostage of the Freedom League and Nikita will kill Jurgen. Nikita is unable to follow through as Jurgen implores to Nikita Michael's ability to manipulate. He implores her to think for herself. Michael is deeply concerned that now Jurgen has power over them. Nikita chooses to trust that Jurgen will keep their secret. Nikita and Jurgen grow friendly in the aftermath and assists on several of the missions that Michael leads. He offers her praise for her work on her missions, offering a contrast to Michael's silence.

Trivia[]

  • Nikita has an obsession with sunglasses of all sorts in Season One and, in addition to wearing them, she features them prominently in apartment. Her affinity for them is toned down in subsequent seasons. Her apartment decor changes drastically and while Nikita is still known for her sunglasses, they are much more elevated and sleek rather than quirky and playful.
